The position is connected to the large, interdisciplinary Norwegian Research Centre on Wind Energy (NorthWind, https: // www. northwindresearch.no/). The primary objective for NorthWind is to bring forward outstanding research and innovation to reduce the cost of wind power and facilitate its sustainable development, which will grow exports and create new jobs. In the highly interdisciplinary approach, social perception and acceptance of wind power (especially off-shore) is also included. The task in NorthWind that the PhD position is connected to has the aim to explore the institutional, industrial, legal, and material underpinnings of energy citizenship related to wind power. Based on qualitative and quantitative methods, such as surveys, interviews and media analysis, citizens' understanding of and engagement with wind power will be studied and the social, environmental, and economic controversies across sectors, scales and geographies will be explored. It should investigate existing and developing new forms of wind power governance, planning and implementation processes, which actively seek the participation of diverse sets of social groups and interests to enable just and inclusive wind power developments. This includes the development of benefits schemes for neighboring communities. Investigations will be based on studies of best practices and case studies with active involvement of relevant stakeholders. It should further advance principles of responsible research and innovation (RRI) with the ambition of understanding how controversies and conflicts can be anticipated and mitigated through active engagement and inclusive participatory processes (involves WP1-4, user partners and citizens). Questions relating to these objectives that might be studied from a psychological perspective are the relations between local individual or professional identities and support or resistance of off-shore wind projects in different regions of Norway, the role place attachment and place identity play in processes of scoping wind energy projects, or if the changing geopolitical situation (especially in the north of Norway) changes perception of wind power.
