PhD Position in Computer Science for Machine Learning and XAI with Health

Data

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark (Campus Odense) invites applications for a PhD scholarship in computer science funded by the Grand Solutions project PREPARE. The successful applicant would become part of the Data Science & Statistics research group.

The proposed starting date is 1 July 2023 or soon thereafter. The appointment will be made for a term of three years at a competitive salary and will follow the PhD study programme at the Faculty of Science. Application deadline: 11 April 2023.

The ideal candidate has a background in or experience with one or more of the following topics:

  • Health data
  • Machine learning method development
  • Explainable AI.

    • The successful candidate will contribute to the development of an advanced home test for assessing the risk of cardiovascular diseases by:

  • Developing and evaluating machine learning methods on synthetic and real health data.
  • Fine-tuning predictive models based on insights with XAI methods.
  • Developing tailored XAI methods.
  • Collaborating closely with clinical and data analysis experts.

    • The applicant is expected to hold a relevant MSc degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Statistics, or another field that provides a sufficient degree of background in computer science, mathematics, statistics, and/or data science. Fluency in English and Python are required. Experience working with health data and programming experience with other languages (Java, C++ etc.) is a plus.

    MSc candidates about to complete will also be considered and should attach a statement from their supervisors regarding their impending completion. The cover letter should elaborate on the fit of the candidate's profile and experience to the requirements of the project.

    Application, salary etc. Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period

    The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

    The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
