  • Strategic developments of mesoporous materials by exploring new methods: green synthesis of nanomaterials with target properties. The student will be in charge of the development of new methodologies for the synthesis of new porous support and optimization of active phase composition. Particular attention will be paid on the preparation of porous Al2O3, SiO2 and mixed Al2O3-SiO2 oxides supports and study their impact on the sulfide phase with emphasis on their structure and morphology will be the main part of the study.

This project aims to design a heterogeneous catalyst by developing a new porous support and optimization of active phase composition. The active catalysts will be used in the Water Gas Shift (WGS) reaction in the presence of sulfur containing compounds for H2 production from biomass source. Thus, we aim to design catalysts presenting higher concentration of S-edge sites and to improve the activity and stability of the M-edge sites by decoration with various metals. Preparation of porous Al2O3, SiO2 and mixed Al2O3-SiO2 oxides supports and study their impact on the sulfide phase with emphasis on their structure and morphology will be the main part of the study. The structure of the supported catalysts will be characterized by X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction approaches. The deposition of the active phase (metals) will be carried out by spin coating and compare to the classical impregnation approach. A fundamental study of the interface between the active phase and the porous supports will be performed at different stages of the preparation route.

This project will take place within framework of the Center for Zeolites and Nanoporous Materials, LABEX of the CNRS directed by Dr. Svetlana Mintova (Research Director, CNRS, LCS UMR 6506, Caen) and Dr. Nicolas Barrier (CRISMAT Laboratory). The work will take place at the LCS - Laboratoire Catalyse & Spectrochimie (https: // www. lcs.ensicaen.fr; https: // clear.cnrs.fr,) and at the CRISMAT Laboratoire de Cristallographie et Sciences des Matériaux https: // crismat.cnrs.fr/ located in Caen (Normandy).
