Offer DescriptionThis thesis is part of the MOBIPART project led by ECOV, funded by the BPI, and whose other partners are CIRED and Tellae. The project aims to design, test and evaluate shared mobility solutions in low-density areas. Various shared mobility solutions, such as car-sharing, transport on demand, community transport and their variations will be analyzed. Two to three fields of study are envisaged for these experiments, ranging from the suburbs of metropolitan areas to rural areas. In this project, LAET (and the doctoral student recruited) will be studying the representations of these services, their specific characteristics and their links with other modes of transport. By cross-referencing the characteristics of users and potential users with the shared mobility services on offer, the aim is to identify the barriers and levers to the use of these various combined services and to optimize the design of new services. The thesis will be carried out on the LAET's premises at the MSH (Lyon 7). Travel to experimental sites is to be expected. The candidate will be supervised by a team of researchers in urban planning, sociology and transport economics. He/she will also be in regular and close contact with the other project partners, in particular ECOV. We are looking for a motivated and enterprising student who is interested in mobility issues and/or low-density areas and who would like to continue their studies with a PhD in Planning. Candidates must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in Urban Planning, Geography, Sociology or Economics and must demonstrate a particular interest in the subject of the thesis. Candidates will be able to demonstrate their ability to work as part of a team, work independently, report and write in English (level B2 to C1 Common Framework of Reference for Languages). They will be familiar with the basic concepts of qualitative and quantitative survey design and analysis.
The aim of this PhD thesis is to take a fresh look at shared mobility services (car sharing, transport on demand, community transport, etc.) and their potential combination with other modes of transport (cycling, walking, car, etc.) in low-density areas. The aim is (i) to study the perceptions of these services by both users and non-users, and (ii) to characterise individual behaviour according to the characteristics of the shared mobility services provided. This thesis will benefit from access to several contrasting areas where shared mobility services will be tested. The successful candidate will have the resources to design, administer and analyse three surveys in order to answer the research questions of the thesis: two qualitative surveys (pre- and post- experimentation) and one quantitative survey - duplicated in the different geographical areas.
