You will conduct your research within the Digital Transformation and Information Systems Management (DTIS) team at Vlerick Business School (Brussels, Belgium) in collaboration with the Research Centre for Information Systems Engineering (LIRIS) at KU Leuven. Both teams have an excellent reputation in conducting applied scientific research at the highest level related to value creation with digital technologies for private and public organizations. Digital transformations are about making businesses future-proof by investing in digital opportunities. More than technology adoption, the real organisational puzzle in digital transformations is discovering a new relationship between people and technology. This act of discovery is integral to a collaborative learning journey of practicing digital-age organizational agility—a capacity of an organisation to explore and exploit opportunities faster than its rivals.
Your research will be part of the Carglass Germany Research Chair: Meaningful Human-Centered Digital Transformation. You will investigate how digital transformations can be made more meaningful with a focus on the human dimension of sustainability, by engaging in action-design research in collaboration with Carglass Germany. Your goal is to study and experiment with information, technology and management artefacts that allow organisations to put humans at the centre of their digital transformations.
As a PhD-student, you are expected, next to your main research tasks, to participate in seminars and conferences, to enrol in the PhD program of the Faculty of Economics and Business at KU Leuven, and to perform a limited amount of educational duties (e.g. supporting classes, supervising exams, writing teaching cases). Candidates have a master's degree and a strong interest in conducting scientific research about how to create people and organisational transformation with the use of digital technologies. Excellent (honors-level or better) results in prior studies are required. Candidates must satisfy the prerequisites for admission to the PhD programme of our Faculty. For international candidates in particular, a GRE or GMAT result above the 75th percentile on the quantitative part and an English TOEFL (minimum score 575 paper-based, 233 computer-based, 90 internet-based), or IELTS (minimum score 7) test, both not older than 5 years are required to enter the program.

We offer an employment as full-time doctoral scholar for 1 year, renewable until max. 4 years after positive evaluation. You will work under the supervision of Prof. dr. Stijn Viaene (Vlerick Business School & KU Leuven), and co-supervision of Prof. dr. Karlien Vanderheyden (Vlerick Business School).
