    Location: Computational Geology Laboratory (CGL), Lower Silesian Branch, Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PGI-NRI), al. Jaworowa 19, 53-122, Wrocław, Poland

    We offer:

  • The opportunity to work in an active and vibrant research environment;

  • Remuneration paid as a scholarship for the duration of the project (4000 PLN gross gross/month for the beginning 24 months and 5000 PLN gross gross/month for the last 24 months)

  • Research stays at the University of Vienna;

  • Internal access to numerical tools and HPC infrastructure of CGL at PGI- NRI;

  • Co-financing of the Polish language course for foreigners;

  • Possibility to apply for additional internal and external funding to extend the time or amount of the scholarship.

  • Duties:

  • The main tasks include: numerical modelling of selected tectonic structures such as fault-related folds, cross-section kinematic analysis, tectonic analysis, seismic data interpretation, structural modelling, field data description and interpretation

  • Participation in fieldwork in the Alps

  • Participation in doctoral studies organized by the Doctoral School Geoplanet of PGI-NRI

  • Oral and poster presentations during local and international conferences;

  • Preparation of scientific manuscripts and periodic reports;

    Offer Requirements Skills/Qualifications

    Valuable skills:

  • Basic skills in numerical methods and scientific computing;

  • Basic knowledge of cross-section balancing and seismic data interpretation software;

  • Experience in scientific writing (authorship of an abstract or a publication);

  • Background in geomechanics is advantage;

  • Willingness to learn basics of Polish language;

  • Specific Requirements

    Requirements:

  • MSc degree in Earth sciences (geology, geophysics) or a similar discipline;

  • Background in structural geology and tectonics;

  • Good programming skills (MATLAB, Python);

  • Experience in conducting geological field work;

  • High degree of motivation, communicativeness and creativity;

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team;

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
