PhD in Computer Security

Applications are invited to apply for a PhD position in computer security at the IMDEA Software Institute, Madrid, Spain. Selected candidates will work with Dr. Juan Caballero on one of the following topics to be decided based on the candidate's interests:

  • Software Security: Developing techniques for securing the software supply chain against integrity attacks that modify benign programs with the insertion of malware
  • Blockchain Intelligence: Developing techniques for identifying malicious activities in blockchain ledgers such as those related to cybercrime and the exploitation of smart contracts
  • Threat Intelligence: Graph-Based data mining approaches to identify unknown threats and relationships in massive datasets
  • Malware: Malware detection, classification, and attribution approaches
  • Network Security: Designing and implementing automated techniques for discovering the network assets of an organization such as servers, domains, and IP ranges
  • All research topics are application-focused and will involve a combination of data collection, data analysis, and prototype development.

    Who should apply?

    Ideal candidates have earned (or are in their last year of) a Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, have a strong commitment to research, are passionate about software engineering and computer security, enjoy coding, and have some experience and interest in at least one of the techniques and application areas described above.

    Good programming and tool building skills are required. Good command of English both spoken and written is also required.

    Dates

    The position will cover the whole duration of the doctoral studies. The ideal starting period is September 2023 with flexibility.
