The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a world-leading internationally oriented research center, committed to discovering new approaches to prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases. To this end, researchers at ten DZNE sites across Germany pursue a translational and interdisciplinary strategy comprising five interconnected areas: fundamental research, clinical research, health care research, population health science, and systems medicine. www. dzne.de
PhD candidate (f/m/x) in Systems Medicine Code: 1162/2022/12The clinical single-cell genomics unit at the Systems Medicine DZNE department in Bonn is recruiting n. 2 PhD candidates in the ambit of the European Horizon 2021-2027 project NEUROCOV - The pandemic within: tackling brain vulnerability in COVID-19 at high resolution.
We are a diverse and multidisciplinary team engaged in tailoring systems-level approaches to tackle health and disease questions in the context of precision immunology and neurodegeneration. As leading partners of the NEUROCOV project consortium, we aim to investigate the yet unknown neurological and neuropsychiatric complications which follow COVID-19 infections in clinical cohorts exploiting powerful omics-based, molecular and computational tools. With this study, we want to achieve a high-resolution modeling of the disease dynamics to further stratify patient responses and vulnerabilities, up to the identification of new potential therapeutic options.
For more information, please refer to our Systems Medicine and NEUROCOV project websites.

Your tasksThe successful candidates will employ single-cell multiomics approaches to investigate the immune mechanisms underlying NeuroCOVID in our clinical cohort, working with cutting-edge experimental and computational platforms in a stimulating international environment. The candidates will be coached on how to address biological questions from an experimental and bioinformatic perspective, and will need to acquire skills and knowledge for the independent development of a complete and mature scientific mindset in the field of systems medicine.
