DNA (aDNA) metagenomics of cryo-environments
Background Cryo-environments provide ideal conditions for the long-term preservation of DNA, thus representing an incredible archive of organismic information dating back thousands of years. By studying environmental ancient DNA (aDNA), we have the unprecedented opportunity to link climate with biological evolution over geological timescales. Our main aim is to elucidate how ancient microbiomes evolved and responded to environmental and climatic changes that occurred in the past, with respect to both biodiversity and functionality.
