Marie Curie Doctoral Fellowship
Epigenetic memory and molecular mechanisms of organ regeneration in the
zebrafish
A 3-year PhD fellowship in regenerative biology is available at the Institute
of Anatomy at the University of Bern, in Switzerland. The fellowship is part
of the REGENERATE-IT doctoral network, funded by the Marie-Sklodowska-Curie
Action (MSCA).
The University of Bern is a comprehensive university offering a broad choice
of courses and programs in eight faculties and is the fourth largest
university in Switzerland. The candidate will be enrolled in the Graduate
School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences GCB with options to participate in
specialization programs such as Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine.
Furthermore, the candidate will profit with affiliations to the Bern Center
for Precision Medicine BCPM and the Cluster of Cardiovascular Research Cluster
Bern CVRC.
Our group is particularly focused on understanding heart regeneration in the
zebrafish (see). We recently found that cardiac fibroblasts get activated in
response to injury, and during regeneration, change from a pro-fibrotic to a
pro-regenerative and quiescent state (see).
Tasks
The PhD student will carry out a project that uses epigenetic single cell
profiling to understand how different cell types contribute to heart
regeneration in the zebrafish.
Requirements
Recruited researchers can be of any nationality and must undertake trans-
national mobility (i.e., move from one country to another) when taking
up the appointment. In particular, at the time of selection by the host
organization, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main
activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization
for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their
recruitment. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.
Master's degree in life sciences, molecular biosciences, bioinformatics or
computational sciences.
Preferably have previous knowledge and/or practical experience in
molecular, cellular, developmental biology, genetics, bioinformatics,
zebrafish model.
You should be able to communicate well in both written and spoken English.
We offer
A PhD position with a competitive salary for 3 years, with possibilities
for extension of an additional year (CHF 47'040.00 to 50'040.00).
A stimulating, cooperative, and supportive environment, and close
collaboration with international research teams.
Multiple opportunities for continuous education and specific PhD programs
related to the topic.
The University of Bern is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes all
individuals who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the
institution.
The Institute of Anatomy is very centrally located and walking distance
from the old city of Bern, declared UNESCO World Heritage Centre. The city
is very close to the Alps offering multiple outdoor activities such as
hiking or skiing.
The contract shall start between 01.06.2023 and 01.11.2023.
