  • As a joint research unit of CNRS, CINaM is composed of about 150 people and 5 departments and is located on the Luminy Campus in Marseille (France). The person recruited will work under the responsibility of Professor Marc Gingras in the 'Molecular Engineering and Functional Materials' Department (IMMF). This department consists of 21 researchers and teacher-researchers, mainly chemists. Fluency in English is mandatory.

Dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC) is fundamental in science. We have demonstrated that the exchange of sulfur components on persulfurated arenes can occur at 20° C and we call it the "sulfur dance". This process raises questions about the dynamics and reversibility of aromatic substitutions. We found it general enough and important to establish a study in DCC, besides the reversible functions / reactions with imines, disulfides, thioacyls, dithioacetals, metathesis and the Diels-Alder reaction. Here we take advantage not only of unusual, multifunctional dynamic DCC templates, but above all persulfurated arenes that possess additional and unique properties of enhanced luminescence, dyes, REDOX, as parameters for detection, monitoring and imaging. We are thus opening the door to a series of DCC applications with available and low-toxicity substrates. The doctoral student will carry out some work in organic synthesis, purification and characterization of the products with the help of various spectroscopic, analytical and separative methods, as part of a research work carried out in an ANR project (National Research Agency), involving covalent dynamic chemistry, organic chemistry and materials chemistry. The student will be called upon to write reports, to present the work achieved, and to exchange with various high-level partners in an international context. Mastering synthesis in organic chemistry, analytical, spectroscopic and separative methods (IR, UV-Vis, HPLC, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, DLS) is required. A good knowledge of NMR spectroscopy (nuclear magnetic resonance), softwares and databases commonly used in chemistry is also required. An excellent knowledge of the English language (written and spoken) is absolutely necessary. It will be an asset to have good knowledge in supramolecular chemistry, physical-chemistry and theoretical chemistry (modeling and calculations). Excellent skills for writing activity reports and making presentations are required.
