The Aquatic Geochemistry Group at the Institute of Applied Geoscience at TU Darmstadt, Germany, is inviting applications for a

Laboratory employee (all genders) in the field of environmental and

aquatic geochemistry

with a permanent contract.

At the laboratory of the Institute of Applied Geosciences, environmental chemical parameters are examined in order to investigate environmental processes and to answer important geoscientific research questions. The Aquatic Geochemistry Group studies biogeochemical and transport processes in aquatic environments, with focus on the subsurface and particularly on shallow groundwater systems. The work in the Aquatic Geochemistry laboratory aims to quantify and determine water quality parameters, including major solution constituents as well as organic and inorganic contaminants, to study mineral/solution interactions, to characterize environmental samples, and to propose and test innovative subsurface remediation approaches. Beside the research, the group is also committed to the education and training of students.

Your daily work will consist in the development and establishment of analysis methods, carrying out analyzes with various measuring devices, support the construction and running of flow-through experiments, support and maintain analysis devices (laboratory and field devices), and general tasks in the laboratory. You will also guide BSc, MSc and PhD students in carrying out laboratory work and analyzes and ensure the quality of the analyzes. As part of laboratory internships and courses, you will supervise groups of students conducting experiments.

As expected qualification, you have completed a training as a chemical laboratory assistant and/or you have a technical university degree (BSc/MSc FH, Dipl. Ing FH or BSc Uni) in the field of chemistry, environment, geosciences or related topics. You have practical experience in the analysis of environmental samples and in analytical methods and instruments such as IC, ICP-MS, GC-MS.

You enjoy to transfer your knowledge and to work in a team. You are fluent in both spoken and written German and English. You have good computer skills and technical expertise to carry out repairs or maintenance work.

Besides the analytical skills in chromatography and mass spectrometry the ideal candidate will also have experience and interest in areas such as the characterization and preparation of clay samples and reactive minerals (e.g., X-ray, microscopy, spectroscopy techniques), and the setup of flow-through systems (e.g., column tests) and their automatization.

We offer to work in a motivated, dynamic, international team with the possibility to work on interesting scientific topics.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). Part-time employment is generally possible.

Please send your application as a single PDF including a letter of motivation, a complete CV and the name and email address of at least one referee to Pia Cazzonelli: cazzonelli@geo.tu-darmstadt.de For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. Massimo Rolle, massimo.rolle@tu-darmstadt.de
