    Implementation of active microparticles

    This work is part of the ANR EDEM between the Charles Sardon Institute in Strasbourg and the PHENIX laboratory at Sorbonne University. Understanding and controlling the coating of colloids by membranes is a key topic for targeted drug delivery, microbial infections and toxicity of nanoparticles (NPs). In EDEM, we aim to control the coating and penetration of Janus microparticles with giant vesicles (GUVs), modeling living cells. We will also explore the active transport of GUVs and membrane disruption by localized photothermal effects. To this end, in PHENIX we will synthesize multifunctional Janus particles able to self-propel under illumination, like bacteria, or moved by an external magnetic field thanks to different physico- chemical microfluidic approaches.

    Eligibility criteria

    Candidates should have obtained a PhD in colloidal/physical chemistry with expertise in the development, surface modification and characterization of nanomaterials (plasmonics, magnetics, silica). Additional experience in colloidal self-assembly methods in bulk and at interfaces using microfluidics is appreciated. The successful applicant should have the drive and enthusiasm to lead the project from fundamental research to design. S/he should be able to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team. The optimal candidate will be inquisitive and enjoy problem-solving and developing novel methodologies with personal creativity and innovation.
