The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science is looking for a full-
time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Materials
chemistry – organic surface modification
Position
You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in
the field of organic-inorganic hybrid materials. You will prepare organic
surface modified materials and focus on the understanding of the reaction
mechanisms and the role of surface and synthesis conditions. You will do
dedicated synthesis and perform and develop advanced characterization to
reveal surface differences. You will closely collaborate with the
computational chemistry group studying the interaction between molecules
and solid surfaces by dedicated synthesis and characterization to provide
them with input for their computational work. In the same context, you
provide samples for advanced characterization.
You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
You will follow the university doctoral program
You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks
for the Department of Chemistry.
Profile
You hold a Master degree in Chemistry or (bio-)engineering with finality
in Chemistry or you will have obtained it by the time the PhD starts.
Master students graduating in 2023 are encouraged to apply.
You can demonstrate excellent study results.
Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp's
educational vision.
Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university
research policies.
You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
You are a team player and good communicator.
Experience in materials chemistry and/or organic surface modification is a
plus.
What we offer
We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of one years. Following a
positive evaluation, the scholarship will be renewed each year up to a
total period of 4-years.
The planned start date is June 1st 2023 or as soon as possible after that
date.
Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship
amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract
Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel , BAP).
You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle
allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
You will do most of your work at Campus Groenenborger in a dynamic and
stimulating working environment.
