The Institute of Development Policy (IOB) is looking for a full-time
(100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of development studies.
Position
You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in
the field of development studies. The PhD project will use mixed methods
to deepen our knowledge of refugee economies, including by examining how
governments, international organisations, and NGOs can contribute to
improving refugees' socio-economic outcomes and increasing their
resilience to shocks, for example by reshaping traditional humanitarian
aid programs or by encouraging refugees' labour market participation,
entrepreneurship, and social integration.
You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks
for the Institute of Development Policy (IOB).
Profile
You hold a Master degree in economics, development studies, or a related
field (or you will have obtained it by the time you start work).
You can demonstrate excellent study results.
Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp's
educational vision.
Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university
research policies.
You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
You have the necessary skills to undertake mixed-method research and have
strong knowledge of impact evaluation methods and statistical analysis.
You can demonstrate an interest in refugee/migration studies.
You are willing to undertake fieldwork in refugee contexts.
What we offer
We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a
positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed for another two years.
The planned start date is 1st of September 2023 or as soon as possible
after that date.
Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship
amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract
Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel , BAP).
You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a
bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for
commuting.
You will do most of your work at the Institute of Development Policy
(IOB, Stadscampus building S) in a dynamic and stimulating working
environment.
