Offer DescriptionA tender is open for the attribution of one Research Scholarship within the scope of the R&D Unit “Research & Development Unit for Mechanical and Industrial Engineering – UNIDEMI”, with the reference UIDB/00667/2020 - UNIDEMI-IDT-12, funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. /MCTES, under the following conditions:

Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering (Mechanical Design subarea)
2. Recipients profile/category:
Mandatory requirements:
The scholarship candidates should have a bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering, or similar, and to be a master student in the Biomedical Engineering program, or similar, or to be enrolled in a course that do not lead to an academic degree.
Candidates should have knowledge in Electronics, 3D Modeling and 3D Printing.
In the case of candidates who are enrolled in courses that do not lead to an academic degree, a scholarship can only be awarded to those who do not exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including the renewals provided for, an accumulated period of two years - followed or interpolated - in this type of scholarship. A declaration of honour from the candidate that he/she fulfils this requirement must therefore be presented.
Enrolment in the master program in Mechanical Engineering or in the course that does not lead to an academic degree will only be confirmed at the time of contracting, not at the time of application.
Preferred factors:
Fluency of the English language and demonstrating capacity for experimentation, teamwork and publish.
3. Work Plan:
● Definition and implementation of a signal acquisition and treatment system.
● Development, modeling and production of a demonstrative prototype.
● Communication and dissemination of results.

5. Workplace:
The work will be developed at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, 3D Printing Laboratory, School of Science and Technology of Universidade Nova de Lisboa under the scientific guidance of Professor Valdemar Duarte and under the scientific co-supervision of Professor Bruno Soares and Professor Ana Gabriel, the contracting entity being NOVA.id.FCT – Associação para a Inovação e Desenvolvimento da FCT.
6. Fellowship duration:
The fellowship will last for 5 months, starting in June 2023. The fellowship contract cannot be renewed.
7. Monthly maintenance allowance amount:
The amount of the scholarship corresponds to € 930,98, having as reference the table of values of the scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country, with payment being made monthly by bank transfer.
8. Selection criteria:
In the selection method, candidates can obtain a maximum of 100 points and will be evaluated according to the following parameters:
(a) Quality of academic background, including overall merit of the candidate's curriculum and average grade of the undergraduate degree, as well as grades in fundamental disciplines for the project development (maximum of 70 points);
(b) Publications and previous experience in scientific research and/or laboratory experimentation activities (maximum of 30 points).
Candidates will be ranked according to the total score, given by the sum of the score obtained in each evaluation item. In case of a tie in the score of the previous paragraphs, the jury reserves the right to demand an interview as a tiebreaker.
The jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship if candidates with the appropriate profile are not presented to the competition.

10. Form of advertising/notification of results:
The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list.
After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address [email protected].

The call is open from the 22th of May 2023 to the 02th of June 2023.
