  • RECTOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SILESIA IN KATOWICE announces the open call for the position of Assistant Professor (post doc) in the group of research staff in the research project :

    „High pressure spectroscopic and diffraction investigations as a missing piece of the puzzle to understand peculiar behaviour of H-bonded and van der Waals associating liquids”, led by Sebastian Pawlus PhD, DSc.

    Applications to the open call may be submitted by those who meet the conditions specified in Section 113 of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (i.e., Journal of Law 2022 item 574).

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • realization of the high pressure measurements of materials, especially van der Waals' liquids and materials with hydrogen bonds using different spectroscopy techniques,
  • analysis of the spectroscopy measurements and comparing/coupling them with results of the diffraction analysis results,
  • theoretical calculations using the Density Functional Theory (DFT), structure modelling and calculations of theoretical infrared spectra and Raman spectra and the use of other methods for modelling of molecular structures.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

    The Selection Committee decides about the resolution of the open call or leaving the open call with no result. The final, binding decision on employment of the selected candidate belongs to the Rector.

    The conditions necessary for the recruitment of the candidate selected in the selection proceedings are the fulfilment of the obligations arising from Section 265(4), (5), (13) of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (i.e., Journal of Law 2020 item 85, as amended).

    In the case of applying for employment at the University of Silesia in Katowice as the primary place of work, candidates employed in other higher education institutions as their primary place of work, should, as of the day of their employment, fulfil the requirement defined in Section 120 of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2021, item 478, as amended), according to which an academic may have only one primary place of work at a time.

    In the case of candidates whose diplomas on the award of a professional title/scientific degree/scientific title require authentication according to the law in force in the Republic of Poland, employment is possible only after completing the procedure of authentication of the diploma (nostrification).

    Skills/Qualifications

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

  • minimum PhD in the discipline of either physical, chemical, material sciences and engineering or in a related discipline,
  • experience in conducting research in the scope of the Condensed Matter Physics using the infrared spectroscopy (IR) and Raman spectroscopy, non-crystalline materials, liquids and glasses; knowledge of other methods of structure analysis on the molecular/atomic level, e.g., X-ray and/or neutron diffraction,
  • experience in using methods of modelling and computer simulations for analysis of the local atomic/molecular structure, e.g., Density Functional Theory (DTF) or molecular dynamics,
  • documented scientific achievements in the discipline of physical sciences (Scopus, Web of Science),
  • author or co-author of minimum of six publications, in the last three years, in the journals evaluated for the discipline of physical sciences that document the candidate's experience in conducting research in the scope named in the qualification requirements of this open call announcement,
  • experience in the high pressure spectroscopic measurements, processing and analysing data, in particular liquids with hydrogen bonding,
  • mobility – documented scientific visits in the candidate's country and abroad (short term visits and long-term stays),
  • documented international research activity,
  • command of English that allows for scientific communication and preparation of scientific publications.
  • Specific Requirements

  • readiness for scientific mobility,
  • ability to work in a research team,
  • self-reliance, good work organization skills.
  • Additionally, we would like to inform that the candidate must fulfill the following conditions:

  • The candidate has received their PhD in the year in which they have been employed in the project, or within 7 years before the 1st of January of the year of employment in the project.
  • The candidate has been awarded their PhD by other entity than the University of Silesia in Katowice,
  • During the period when the candidate receives the remuneration for their full-time work in the project, they shall not receive remuneration from the funds assigned as a part of direct costs in research projects financed by the NCN programmes.

  • During the period when the candidate receives the remuneration for their full-time work in the project, they will not receive remuneration arising from the employment contract concluded with other employer that has its residence in Poland or in other country.
