THE RECTOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SILESIA IN KATOWICE announces an open call for the position of Assistant Professor (post-doc) in the employee group of research staff under the project led byKarolina Jurkiewicz, PhD Eng.

Applications to the open call may be submitted by those who meet the conditions specified in Section 113 of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (i.e., Journal of Law 2022 item 574 as amended).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • conducting scientific research in the research project entitled "Correlations between supramolecular structure, molecular dynamics, physico-chemical stability, and solubility in neat Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and API-excipient binary systems"​, led by Karolina Jurkiewicz PhD Eng.,
  • conducting laboratory and synchrotron structural studies of API systems in various thermodynamic conditions,
  • analysis of the inter- and intra-molecular structure using pair distribution function and computer simulation methods,
  • analysis of correlations between the structure of the studied API systems and their thermodynamics, molecular dynamics and physical stability,
  • preparing partial reports and scientific publications on the basis of the conducted research.

    Skills/Qualifications

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • minimum PhD in natural sciences ( in the discipline of physical sciences or chemical sciences), in the field of engineering and technology (in the discipline of materials science and engineering) or in medical sciences or health sciences (in the discipline of pharmacology and pharmacy) or in the related fields,
  • experience in conducting research in the field of condensed matter physics, in the specialization of the atomic/molecular structure of crystalline and non-crystalline materials,
  • experience in using at least one of the following research techniques to characterize the structure of materials at the atomic/molecular level: X-ray diffraction, neutron diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, atomic pair distribution function, molecular dynamics/density functional theory simulations,
  • recent high scoring scientific achievements in the discipline of physical science/chemical sciences/ pharmacology and pharmacy indexed Scopus or Web of Science,
  • author or co-author of minimum five publications, in the last three years, published in the journals with the impact factor, that document the candidate's experience in the research of atomic/molecular structure of materials,
  • documented scientific internships in the candidate's country and abroad,
  • command of English that allows for scientific communication and preparation of scientific publications in English,
  • international research activity,
  • participation in the research project in the candidate's country or in the international research project financed from external sources.
  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • ability to work in the international research team,
  • readiness for scientific mobility,
  • self-reliance, conscientiousness, strong motivation, creativity,
  • good work organization skills,
  • communication skills, readiness to share one's knowledge and scientific experience with others,
  • experience in structural synchrotron research, high-pressure diffraction or spectroscopic measurements, operation of diamond anvil cells or X-ray diffractometer will be of advantage,
  • experience in performing computer simulations using the molecular dynamics method in Gromacs, Lammps or similar packages will be of additional advantage.
  • Specific Requirements

    Additionally we want to inform that the candidate must fulfil the following conditions:

  • The candidate cannot be a person for whom the project manager/coordinator was a dissertation advisor or auxiliary dissertation advisor in their PhD course.
  • The candidate has been awarded their PhD by other entity than the University of Silesia in Katowice, or they had a minimum 10 month uninterrupted and documented post-doctoral internship in other institution than the University of Silesia and in other country then the country where they were awarded their PhD,
  • During the period when the candidate receives the remuneration for their full-time work in the project, they shall receive neither remuneration from the funds assigned as a part of direct costs in research projects financed by the NCN programmes.
  • During the period when the candidate receives the remuneration for their full-time work in the project, they will not receive remuneration arising from the employment contract concluded with other employer, that has its residence in Poland or abroad.

  • Additional comments

    Applications received after the deadline, incomplete applications and applications submitted in any other way than defined in the open call announcement shall not be considered. The University reserves the right to leave the call unresolved.

    The Selection Committee decides about the resolution of the open call or leaving the open call with no result. The final, binding decision on employment of the selected candidate belongs to the Rector.

    The condition necessary for employment of the candidate selected in the selection proceedings is the fulfilment of the obligations arising from Section 265(4), (5), (13) of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Law of 2022 item 574 as amended).

    In the case of applying for employment at the University of Silesia in Katowice as the primary place of work, candidates employed in other higher education institutions as their primary place of work, should, as of the day of their employment, fulfil the requirement defined in art. 120, section 2 of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Law of 2022 item 574 as amended), according to which an academic may have only one primary place of work at a time.

    In the case of person selected as a result of the open call selection procedure, who has obtained their academic degree, their degree in arts or their professional title abroad, and whose academic degree, degree in arts or their professional title has not been recognized as equivalent with the adequate Polish degree or title, employment of such person is possible in accordance with art. 116 section 2a of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Law of 2022 item 574 as amended), in accordance with the procedure in force at the University.
