Assistant (f/m, 1 position), to be employed for a fixed term until 3112.2025., with a possibility of extension up to a maximum of 5 years since the day of employment in the case of approval form the Croatian Science Foundation (CSF), on tasks related to the execution of CSF project No. UIP-2020-02-1732 „Boron-based 2D materials“. Supervisor of the assistant (PhD student) will be dr. sc. Marin Petrović (email@example.com). The work will be conducted in the field of surface physics and physics of 2D materials, within the scope of the Group for Investigation of Surfaces, Interfaces and 2D Materials. More specifically, assistant will be working on the synthesis and characterization of 2D materials based on boron (such as hexagonal boron nitride, borophene and BCN alloy), transfer of those materials to arbitrary substrates and construction of simplistic devices based on their heterostructures. The aim of research is production of high-quality samples of boron-based 2D materials and investigation of their technological potential. Synthesis will be conducted in ultra-high vacuum by means of chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and characterization will be conducted by utilizing various surface science techniques (e.g., AFM, SEM, STM, ARPES, XPS, LEED).
The candidate should have a good knowledge of condensed matter physics, high motivation to work in the laboratory, and excellent knowledge of English language. Priority will be given to candidates who have shown excellence in their studies and research (awards, scholarships, published papers, presentations at conferences etc.). Practical experience with research subject, including experimental techniques, will be considered advantageous.Eligibility criteria
