PhD positionAt the Department of Economics, University of Bergen, there is a vacancy for a PhD research scholar position in economics. The position is open for any field of economics and is for a period of 4 years, of which 25% will be dedicated to teaching, supervision, and administrative tasks at the department.
About the project/work tasks:The Department of Economics is looking for highly motivated and talented individuals. The PhD specialisation in economics aims to give dedicated graduates a solid training in performing high quality scientific research in economics, making use of state of the art empirical and theoretical techniques. The programme prepares students for the international academic job market, for positions at national and international policy institutions, research organisations, and analytic jobs in both private and public sectors.
The Department of Economics has a scientific staff of about 20 individuals, in addition to post-docs and PhD Research Scholars. The department offers two 5-year integrated master programs in addition to a bachelor and a master program in Economics. The department has three research groups:

About the PhD position (applies to university PhD positions):The duration of the PhD position is 4 years, of which 25 per cent of the time comprises obligatory duties associated with research, teaching and dissemination of results. The employment period for the successful candidate may be reduced if he or she previously has been employed in a PhD position.
As a PhD research fellow, you will take part in the PhD programme at the Faculty of Social Sciences, UiB. The programme corresponds to a period of three years and leads to the PhD degree. The training component of the programme is offered joint with The Norwegian School of Economics. To be eligible for admission you must normally have an educational background corresponding to a master's degree with a scope of 120 ECTS credits, which builds on a bachelor's degree with a scope of 180 ECTS credits (normally 2 + 3 years), or an integrated master's degree with a scope of 300 ECTS credits (5 years). Master's degrees must normally include an independent work of a minimum of 30 ECTS credits.
We can offer:A research proposal of 2-4 pages must accompany the application. The proposal should present the planned topic of the thesis, the research problem(s) and choice of theory and methods. The proposal should also include a progress plan for the different parts of the project. Admittance to the PhD programme will be based on the research proposal.
